The Mini Cooper electric has officially been teased by the carmaker and all the exterior changes are now clearly visible. While details about its powertrain and features are yet to be revealed, let’s have a look at what’s new on the outside and check for any major changes.
New Exterior
The new Mini Cooper Electric has an exterior similar to the current model, which is also available in India as the Cooper SE. The new Mini EV’s smooth surfaces, on the other hand, include a lot of new embellishments. The front bumper and fenders appear to be one piece, and the bonnet scoop is missing.
The headlamps appear to be significantly larger, and an illuminated ring surrounds the closed-off front grille. The 2024 Mini Cooper’s side profile lacks the plastic wheel arches found on the present model, and the alloy wheels, which appear larger than the current model on the market, feature a new design. The frameless window panes remain, but the door handles have been updated to be more modern.
The most noticeable alteration is a new set of tail lamps joined by a broad black strip that houses the Cooper insignia. These new tail lamps don’t lose the Union Jack design, loosening its connection to its British roots. The more visible panelling on the rear bumper gives it a chunkier appearance.
The current Mini Cooper electric has a 32.6kWh battery pack with an electric motor that produces 184PS and 270Nm. This configuration allows the three-door electric hatch to have a driving range of up to 270 km. In India, the same specifications are available.
Features & Safety
The 2024 Mini Cooper, on the other hand, is predicted to feature a larger battery pack and a range of more than 350 kilometres.
Most of its present features, such as adaptive LED lighting, automatic climate control, a digital driver’s display, heated front seats, and wireless phone charging, could be retained. In terms of safety, the current model includes front and rear airbags, anti-lock brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), driving assist, and a rearview camera.
Aside from the improvements listed above, the 2024 Mini Cooper may possibly have a larger infotainment system than the existing 8.8-inch touchscreen, as well as a 360-degree camera.
Price & Rivals
The new Mini Cooper Electric is set to arrive in foreign markets in 2024 and could arrive in India by 2025. It will undoubtedly command a higher price than the present model, which retails for Rs 52.5 lakh (ex-showroom) as a CBU offering. As a costly three-door sports EV hatchback, the Cooper Electric is unlikely to face direct competition.
