Munich Auto Show: The Hottest Car’s, EV’s
Auto Shows are the best way for manufacturers to showcase their innovations and new technologies. IAA Mobility 2021 is the first big post-pandemic motor show. It was canceled last year due to Covid-19. The event was held in Frankfurt for the last seven decades. Starting from this year, it’ll be hosted in Munich. Thus, this biggest auto show in Germany has been renamed from ‘Frankfurt IAA’ to ‘IAA Mobility 2021’.
Major Automakers like Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Bentley skipped the show. This in turn helped the German brands to shine in full light. Automotive brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi as well as supplier companies like Bosch were present at the show. Due to many cars being there at the show, we will divide the blog into two parts with part two coming later. So let’s take a look at some of the most interesting German cars at the show:-
1. Mercedes-Benz EQG Concept
Taking a classic G-Wagen and converting it electric might sound unusual, but people at Mercedes-Benz have shown that it makes a great car. Still in the concept stage, it retains the tall and rugged look of the classic. ut it now looks much smoothened due to the absence of an engine and the light-up grille and round headlights make it feel like a robot. The big spare-tire carrier on the rear end is also a nod to the classic design. This time though, it is used for storage purposes.

2. BMW iVision Circular Concept
Does this remind you of the now-discontinued BMW i3? Well, this concept showcased by BMW at the IAA Mobility is just a bit larger than the i3. It still retains the four-seat setup though. The company states that 100 percent of its materials are recyclable. The name refers to the Circle of Life.
3. Audi Grandsphere
The second model in the series of three ‘Sphere’ concept cars, is the Grandsphere. It is a 17.5 feet long and 6.5 wide beast sitting on 23-inch wheels. This makes it larger than the long-wheelbase version of the current Audi A8. It features a completely flat dashboard with no visible screens, dials, or physical controls. Designers say that it is suitable for extensive autonomous driving, lounging, and ‘Digital Detox’.
4. Mercedes-Benz EQE
The Mercedes-Benz EQE is the follow-up model to the EQS sedan which the company started selling last month. It is smaller and less expensive than the EQS. The production is said to start in mid-2022. The car gets a 91kWh battery and a 215kW motor mounted in the rear. The combined power is 288 bhp and mileage of 410 miles.

5. BMW iX SUV
With up to 300 miles of range, this latest BMW SUV concept is not to be taken lightly. It makes 516 HP from its dual electric motor. The car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. It also gets an electric all-wheel drive.
6. Mercedes-Benz EQB
Looks familiar? Well, that’s because this here is the electric version of the existing GLB-Class. Mercedes-Benz has continued the EQ electric model lineup with the first and most affordable Mercedes-Benz EV models (for the consumers). Initial models will get all-wheel-drive and 66.5 kWh batteries with 168kW or 215 kW motors.
7. Volkswagen ID. Life Crossover
This model at IAA Mobility 2021 showcases what entry-level electric cars might look like in the next 10-15 years. It will get a 231 HP electric motor and a 57 kWh battery that can provide up to 250 miles of range. The concept has a built-in projector and a translucent grill. There’s no word about when this model will start manufacturing as the ID vehicle lineup is said to be in the concept stage.

8. Mercedes-Maybach EQS
Bling, Bling !! Chrome, Chrome !! That’s what one thinks after seeing this SUV. If this wasn’t enough, Mercedes also added the 24-inch ‘bowl’ rims. (ambien prescription online) It gets a first-class rear suite having two individual seats, a champagne holder, and a cooling box with a high-end sound and visual entertainment system. Talk about making a luxurious house-on-wheels. The non-Maybach electric SUV will debut in 2022 and the Maybach model will likely follow.
9. BMW iX5 Hydrogen
The ‘Hydrogen’ part in this model’s name is the interesting part here. It is not a proper EV, but a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). It uses fuel cell technology and hydrogen to generate energy. BMW did this experiment back in 2005 with Hydrogen-7, the limited production model. So it feels good to see BMW come back to this tech after so long.
10. Porsche Mission R
We’ve saved the best for last. This Porsche beast can hit 60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds!! It generates 671 HP in racing mode and 1073 HP in qualifying mode. The car gets power from a 90 kWh battery that can recharge from 5% to 80% in just 15 minutes, thanks to the 900-volt charging system provided by Porsche. It is a functioning prototype and not slated for production but a customer available racer might be ready by 2026.
