2023 Toyota bZ4X Price Starts At $43,215, Nears $50K In Limited Trim

It reaches dealerships in the spring with an EPA-estimated range of 252 miles.

In November 2021, Toyota unveiled its first all-electric SUV. The bZ4X, despite its odd name, promises modest performance and range, as well as five-passenger seating and a slew of electronics. It will go on sale later this spring, and Toyota is finally ready to reveal price.

The base price for the 2023 bZ4X is $42,000, but it doesn’t include a $1,215 destination and delivery fee. That brings the total out-of-the-door price to $43,215 for an XLE trim level with only the front wheels rotating. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the bZ4X Limited with all-wheel drive, which serves as the line’s flagship. That’ll cost you $49,995, which is technically under $50,000. That is, of course, before any alternatives are added.

For 2023, Toyota only offers the bZ4X in XLE and Limited trim levels. Here’s a quick price breakdown.

Vehicle Drive Price Price/w $1,215 Delivery
Toyota bZ4X XLE Front-Wheel Drive $42,000 $43,215
Toyota bZ4X XLE All-Wheel Drive $44,080 $45,295
Toyota bZ4X Limited Front-Wheel Drive $46,700 $47,995
Toyota bZ4X Limited All-Wheel Drive $48,780 $49,995

The bZ4X is based on Toyota’s e-TNGA electric vehicle platform, which was co-developed with Subaru. Front-wheel-drive variants have a single front motor that produces 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts), and they have the best EPA-estimated range of 252 miles, as you’d expect. When you add the second motor for all-wheel drive, the XLE’s range lowers to 228 miles. (marandolas.com) Power rises to 214 hp, but only marginally (160 kW).

It’s worth noting that Toyota’s new AWD horsepower figure is a single pony lower than when the bZ4X was unveiled last year. Straight-line performance is identical across the bZ4X series, thanks to similar power outputs. According to Toyota, the AWD bZ4X accelerates to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, compared to 7.1 seconds with FWD. It isn’t exactly setting the world on fire in terms of performance, but it is more than capable of getting the job done.

Will shoppers in the expanding crossover EV sector respond to “adequate”? In SE trim, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 costs a little more, but it has a little more power, a little more range, and faster charging speeds. The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a little more expensive, but it has more power and a faster charging speed, as well as a roughly equal range estimate in base RWD model.

The Toyota bZ4X 2023 will go on sale later this spring.
