Automobili Pininfarina Battista Begins Series Production

The first production-spec Automobili Pininfarina Battista has been completed and will be displayed in the United States during Monterey Car Week in August. First, there will be a screening in Monaco for the first client test experience. This summer, customer deliveries will commence.

To recap, the Battista generates 1,900 horsepower (1,417 kilowatts) and 1,696 pound-feet (2,300 Newton-meters) from four electric motors. Rimac supplied the 120-kilowatt-hour battery. It takes less than 2.0 seconds to accelerate to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour).

Each Battista is meticulously handcrafted at the Automobili Pininfarina plant in Cambiano, Italy. Each hypercar is built by a team of 10 craftspeople over the course of approximately 1,250 hours. Because of their unique features and hand-painted finish, the five Battista Anniversario models increase the production time to 1,340 hours.

The assembly of the Battista begins with the creation of a rolling chassis comprised of the carbon-fiber monocoque, electric engine, T-shaped battery, and other electrical systems. The body-in-white will next be bonded to this structure. The vehicle is then mounted to a rig for a two-day process of ensuring that all measurements are within prescribed tolerances.

The body is then removed from the chassis and painted by the Automobili Pininfarina artisans. Because the Battista has a multi-layer metallic finish, this takes three to four weeks. Others are working on the interior at the same time.

The entire car is eventually reassembled. The end-of-line tests are performed using unique software and tools developed by the company. One of the final procedures is to place the vehicle on a hoist for 24 hours to perform wheel and steering alignment. Following that, the car is put through on-road testing to ensure it meets the company’s quality standards.

Automobili Pininfarina is making just 150 units of the Battista. It wants to make sure owners can enjoy these hypercars for years. The vehicle supports remote diagnostics, and the company employs what it calls “flying doctors” for helping with service wherever an owner lives.

Buyers can also choose for a five- or ten-year maintenance contract. An extended battery and powertrain warranty with ten years of coverage is available instead of the regular three years. There’s also the Eterna programme, which includes replacement body components with a fresh Battista for easier repairs following a collision.

The production-spec Battista has been in the works for quite some time. During Monterey Car Week in 2018, Automobili Pininfarina initially previewed it to potential customers. The car was known as PF0 at the time.
