Tom Hanks, the famed American actor and filmmaker, recently auctioned off one of his personal automobiles, a 1974 Polski Fiat 126p, on the Bring a Trailer website in the United States.
The highly acclaimed actor, known for his roles in films such as Forrest Gump, Splash, and Cast Away, announced that all proceeds from the auction of his tiny little car would go to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and its Hidden Heroes Campaign, which aims to empower, support, and honour American military caregivers. The Fiat 128p was eventually sold at auction for $83,500. (approximately Rs 64 lakhs).
Tom claimed in the car’s unveiling video that he travelled extensively over Europe in 2016, posing with all of the antique autos he came across on the streets, claiming to be the owner and about to take the wheel. And several of the vehicles he drove from his posts were Fiats, which grabbed the attention of Monika Jaskolska, a Fiat enthusiast from Poland. She then invited residents of Bielsko-Biala, where the Polski Fiat was produced under licence, to raise funds for a special birthday gift for the legendary actor.

Following that, a 1974 Polski Fiat 126p was custom-built for actor Tom Hanks and presented to him in 2017 on behalf of the Polish city of Bielsko-Biala. BB Oldtimer Garage in Bielsko-Biaa, Poland, repainted the car in white. Tom’s 126 has an unique green interior and is powered by a 594cc twin engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Chrome bumpers, rear fender vents, rectangular headlights and taillights, aluminium and wood interior trim, and typewriter-key switchgear are all part of the package. It also has some lovely off-white 12′′ steel wheels with 135/80 Debica Passio tyres installed on them, as well as a spare in the front trunk area.

“Bielsko-Biaa for Tom Hanks” and “One of One” are some of the special badging on the vehicle. Carlex Design of Czechowice-Dziedzice, Poland, restored the interior, which includes front bucket seats and a back bench dressed in green leather with black trim, as well as matching door cards and console. Three-point seatbelts and aluminium trim are among the features. Front seatbacks have special embroidery, the dash and door-lock knobs were handcrafted from vintage typewriter keys, a phrase from “Forrest Gump” is featured on the dash top, a toy dog is perched in the rear window, and Tom Hanks signed the driver-side door card. Carlex Design personnel have signed the floor beneath the black carpeting.

In November of 2021, the brake fluid was drained and the brakes were bled, as well as the axle boots and axle dust covers being installed. Cleaning and adjusting the carburettor, cleaning the gasoline tank and lines, changing the oil, and replacing the fuel filter, battery, and ground wire were all part of the November 2021 service.
