Chevrolet has been manufacturing cars since 1913. Since 1918, they are under the umbrella of General Motors. Over the course of time, they’ve manufactured many legendary cars like the Camaro, Bel Air, Impala, Corvette and many more. But not all cars were instant hits or became classics over time. Some became history the moment they launched. Some had questionable designs while some lacked features over their competitors. Let’s take a look at the worst Chevrolet cars ever made:-
- 1980 Camaro Iron Duke
- Chevrolet Lumina APV
- 2003 Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster)
- Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof)
- 1970 Vega
5. 1980 Camaro Iron Duke
How can we include a Camaro on the list of worst Chevrolet cars ever? Well, it’s the specifications that made us include. Iron Duke is known as one of the worst chevy engines of all time. This four-cylinder engine made only 90 HP and had a 0-60 time of 20 seconds !! When you take such a slow engine and put it in a sports car like the Camaro, you know fans would get angry. But that’s what Chevrolet did and made the model appear in today’s list. Camaro was never supposed to be driven slow and the Iron Duke was exactly that. How come you expect people to buy it, Chevy?

4. Chevrolet Lumina APV
Talk about questionable looks in a chevy and there is nothing that signifies it more than Lumina APV. It had hideous plastic body panels on the exterior. People who bought this had to sacrifice style in favour of large headroom and legroom. The performance was also sub-par. Its 3.4-litre V6 made 180 HP. No wonder this van got the tag of Dustbuster from the start. It was not a sales success and thus got discontinued in 1997.
3. 2003 Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster)
Initially shown as a concept car at the Detroit Auto Show, nobody thought they would see one of these on road. Yet here we are. Chevrolet wanted to Cash In on the concept of retro-styled cars with the SSR. What people got instead was Muscular looks with not the performance to match. Chevy tried to make a modern El-Camino with the looks of its older-gen pickup trucks. Unfortunately, the bed cover of SSR meant that it was not possible to use it as a pickup neither it was a good car. What was supposed to be a modern iteration of the El-Camino turned out to be just a joke like the Plymouth Prowler. If it looked better and had more practicality, it would’ve sold better. Also, did we mention a high price tag of $42,000?

2. Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof)
As if they weren’t done with the retro-inspired styling, Chevy tried to sell another one of such models. We are talking about the HHR, the five-door FWD crossover. Its design took inspiration cues from the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban. There was also a turbocharged variant of the same, called HHR SS turbocharged. From the looks, we can say that it was too late when it launched. Later, Chevrolet offered a panel van version of the same. It had so complex problems that chevy engineers found it complex to repair. It still seems like a fair deal in the second-hand market if you are one of those customers who like their cars looking odd.
1. 1970 Vega
The car that tops the list of worst Chevrolet cars ever made is the Vega. It was introduced in 1970 and sold til 1977. The models had rust issues, safety issues and engine troubles and whatnot. The performance was also lackluster. Motor Trend named it the Car Of The Year in 1971. They would’ve regretted the decision later. Chevy focused on fuel economy for this vehicle. Instead, if they focused on developing the car properly, this disaster could’ve been avoided. Just like the Ford Pinto, the Chevrolet vega will forever go down in the history as the Worst Car ever made by its manufacturer.
