2022 Jeep Cherokee X Joins Revamped Lineup, Base Price Is Way Up

The cheapest 2022 Cherokee is nearly $6,000 more than it was in 2021.

The Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee have gotten a lot of attention in the Jeep world over the last year or two. Although both are new, the non-grand Cherokee looms in the background. The midsize SUV is showing its age, with its bones dating back to 2014, but that won’t stop Jeep from mixing up the 2022 Cherokee lineup. This involves a big reorganisation of entry-level pricing, which we’ll go into in more detail later.

The advent of a new trim level named Cherokee X is the big news. It adds a bit of Trailhawk flavour to the lower end of the spectrum with rugged aesthetic elements, external graphics, a 1-inch suspension boost, all-terrain tyres on black 17-inch wheels, and standard-issue 4WD with V6 power. The interior is a mix of black cloth and vinyl, and while there are eight exterior colours to choose from, white is the only one that isn’t extra.

Uconnect 4C 8.4-inch touchscreen with SiriusXM radio is standard on all Cherokee grades. All Cherokee grades now come standard with four-wheel drive, with the exception of the Latitude Lux, which has the option of spinning only the front wheels. According to Jeep, the Cherokee X will be ready in late 2022. However, price for all four 2022 Cherokee models is available on Jeep’s website. With equal $33,995 starting prices, the Cherokee X and Latitude Lux share entry-level tasks. That’s a whopping $5,860 more than the base Cherokee from last year, although the higher price reflects versions with greater features. A direct comparison of the 2021 and 2022 Latitude Lux indicates a $2,195 rise, which is a smaller but still significant increase.
