2023 BMW X1 Teaser Previews New Generation Of Bavarian Compact SUV

A BMW dealer in France is offering a preview of the new X1 soon.

A preview event for the new version of the BMW X1 crossover is being advertised by a BMW dealer in Cholet, France. It features a teaser image (above) that shows the crossover’s outline in profile.

It’s unclear whether this is also BMW’s planned date for revealing the new X1 to the general public, based on this dealer’s Facebook post. BMW was contacted by Motor1.com for comment.

The following is a translation of the Facebook post: “On Monday, May 2nd, from 5:00 pm, we cordially welcome you to attend an exclusive presentation of the new BMW X1 at our BMW Charrier dealership in Cholet. Take advantage of the opportunity to be the first in France to discover it!”

There are no additional specifics about the X1 in the Facebook post. After seeing spy images of this model since June 2020, we have a good sense of what to expect.

The new X1 appears to have more chiselled style than the present model, based on spy shots and renderings. The kidney grilles, like those on many other current BMWs, appear to be larger than those on the outgoing model. The teaser image indicates there is a more angular shape for the front running lights and taillamps.

The dashboard layout appears to be very similar to the 2 Series Active Tourer in a photo of the disguised interior. This comprises instrument and infotainment display screens.

The new X1 will be available with a variety of powertrains. The M35i, which is at the top of the line, is said to share an engine with the M135i and M235i. This would give it a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 302 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and 450 pound-feet (332 Newton-meters) of torque. An X1 with quad exhaust outlets would be easy to spot in this trim level.

The iX1 EV is another name for the latest generation. There aren’t many specifics about this variation yet, such as the size of the battery. According to rumours, both single- and dual-motor configurations will be available.

The portfolio also includes a plug-in hybrid. We don’t know much about it yet, just like the EV.

Even if this event in France does not coincide with BMW’s official debut of the new X1, the new crossover is expected to arrive this year. In 2020, BMW confirmed the debut of the 2022 model.
