BMW i7 Teaser Shows Off Panoramic Rear-Seat 8K Theater Screen

The electric sedan debuts on April 20.

The BMW i7 will be unveiled on Wednesday, but the manufacturer has already teased one of the options available to customers. The new teaser shows off the large rear-seat BMW Theater Screen display, which passengers will be able to use for various forms of entertainment.

The screen appears to be quite large in the image, but BMW doesn’t specify the precise size, and the proportions appear to be a little off in the two-dimensional rendering. In a few days, we should have those details.

According to a teaser post on Facebook by BMW Deutschland, the panoramic display would include an 8k screen. Apps for Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, Red Bull, Tubi, Amazon Music, and a generic-looking News app are shown in the image. We don’t know what additional streaming apps BMW will provide, but we’re hoping for a wide selection.

The electric sedan’s characteristic LED front grille and daytime running lights, which look identical to the new redesigned X7 and iX, were seen in a previous teaser. The i7 will employ a split-headlight design that places the i7’s stylistic trademarks at the top of the car’s face, similar to its SUV sister.

We don’t have exact powertrain information, but speculations suggest that the i7 will share a powertrain with the iX M60, which would meet BMW’s promise of more than 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) in the electric 7 Series. The dual-motor iX M60 produces 610 horsepower (449 kW) and 811 pound-feet (1,100 Newton-meters) of torque in Sport mode.

BMW estimates that the i7 will deliver up to 305 miles of range when certified by the EPA. That’s down from the 360 to 379 (580 to 610 kilometers) of range according to WTLP. However, we’ll have to wait for official numbers to be sure. BMW will also introduce the gas-powered 7 Series alongside the i7, which will allegedly arrive with a hybrid V8 that makes more than 600 hp; however, we have very few details. We expect BMW to offer less potent versions of each.

BMW reveals the new electric i7 and gas-powered 7 Series on Wednesday, April 20, with a global rollout planned in New York, Munich, and Beijing. Tune in for the livestream at 8:00 AM EDT (12:00 PM GMT)
