Mahindra to supply ALSV worth 1,056 Cr to Indian Army

The Indian Army is a segment of India that ensures national security as well as the national unity of the people of this country and therefore there safety is equally important also in terms of there special vehicle. The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd (MDSL) for the supply of 1,300 Light-Specialist Vehicles (LSV) at a massive cost of Rs 1,056 crore. This will also boost the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government says Defence Ministry. The inaugural of Mahindra ALSV is planned to be completed in four years.

What is a LSV ?

A light specialist vehicle(LSV) is a modern fighting vehicle which act as a medium of carriage for machine guns, automatic grenade launchers as well as anti-tank guided missiles.These combat vehicles are extremely agile with all-round protection against small arms fire. These will be authorised to various fighting units.

It was revealed earlier last year for the first time in May. The LSV is known for its indigenous design, developed by keeping in mind the standards of our Indian Army.

The company stated in its report, Mahindra Defence LSV is the only armoured vehicle that passed all Field, Ballistics, and Technical tests. Powered by a Steyr 3.2-litre inline six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.

Features

The Mahindra ALSV is made to withstand 7.62 x 51mm bullets and HE36 hand grenade blasts. The ALSV provides protected mobility for the front, side and rear as per STANAG Level I Ballistics and Blast for four crew members with battle load having ample storage space for arms and ammunition. The Mahindra ALSV’s variants include the 6 to 8-seater – Armoured Protection Vehicle for Security; Light Armoured Ambulance; Command and Control Vehicle, Light Mortar 81/82mm Vehicle, Ammunition Carrier for Light Weapons. The vehicle is all set to give its service for the Indian Arm force.
