Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door To Debut Next Year – FINALLY!

The Suzuki Jimny is one of the world’s greatest SUVs, famed for being one of the greatest budget-friendly off-road cars available today. The Japanese automaker is currently developing a new long-wheelbase Jimny, which is set to make its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. A Suzuki Jimny 5-door test mule was reportedly spotted during testing on European soil. According to speculation, the model was manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki and then shipped internationally for testing, which is highly feasible given that manufacturing of the 3-door Jimny is already underway in our country.

We anticipate that the 5-door Jimny will be produced in India for both domestic and export markets. Details regarding the SUV have already leaked online, according to sources from Japan. The next 5-door Jimny will have a length of 3,850mm and a wheelbase of 2,550mm. This is a 300mm increase in length and wheelbase length. Minor changes will be made to the SUV’s design.

The ground clearance will be the same as 210mm. The 5-door Jimny will be at least 100 kg heavier than the present 3-door model, weighing in at 1,190 kg (kerb weight). The K15B engine, a 1.5L NA petrol unit with 103 PS of peak power, powers the 3-door variant. There are two transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic, both having a part-time 4WD system.

According to sources, the 5-door version will be powered by the brand’s new K15C engine, which is a 1.5L NA petrol unit with a mild-hybrid system. While the manual transmission option will be a 5-speed manual unit, the automatic transmission will be a new 6-speed torque-converter type. The SUV will also be available with 4WD.

According to some rumours, Maruti may opt for a smaller turbocharged petrol engine (a 1.0-litre or 1.2-litre unit) instead, which would allow the SUV fall into a lower tax rate in the Indian vehicle market. When it is released, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will be a less expensive alternative to the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha (both of which will also get 5-door versions in the near future).
