Pebble Beach is now teeming with the coolest cars of late for Monterey Car Week, one of which hails from Germany. Ruf presents an open-top speedster, the Bergmeister, to attendees of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
The Bergmeister, also known as the Project RBS, is displayed alongside another nameplate at the event. The Ruf SCR, which looks like a classic 911 and debuted in 2018, will go into production in 2020. It’s worth noting that this is both cars’ first outing in America.

The Ruf Bergmeister is inspired by Porsche’s classic hillclimb cars, specifically the legendary Porsche 906, 909 Bergspyder, and 718 RS 60 Spyder. Other race cars that influenced the company included the 1971 Adamowicz TransAm 911 and the 1997 GT1 Evo.
The Bergmeister’s styling was created by Tony Hatter, the designer of the last air-cooled Porsche 911. The speedster takes pride in having a skin made entirely of carbon fibre. It also includes a newly developed LED lighting system that is compatible with all Porsche 993 models. The entire cabin is wrapped in black Alcantara, including the tiller, which uses direct steering for precision.

Meanwhile, a dry sump, air-cooled turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine is housed behind the seats, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Ruf designed and engineered it, and it generates 450 horsepower (336 kilowatts) and 442 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters) of torque.
“When we started building our own cars in 1974, it was all for the thrill of the drive,” Alois Ruf, owner of RUF Automobile GmbH, explained. “We are thrilled to be featured at The Quail and to share our love of driving with our friends. The Bergmeister represents the most fundamental driving experience, while the SCR showcases the most recent technological offerings from our team in Pfaffenhausen.”
