Ukrainian Tesla Driver Stranded In Romania Charges At Gas Station

The older Tesla Model S appears to have run out of juice in front of a gas station in Sibiu, Romania.

Ukrainians are fleeing their homeland to escape the military conflict started by Russia and even though Teslas and EVs generally speaking are not as common as in most western European countries, there were still plenty of them in the country, mainly in the big cities. This Ukrainian Tesla Model S from the capital Kyiv was spotted slow charging outside a gas station in the historic central Romanian town of Sibiu after it could no longer move.

The older Model S, which appears to be from the 2014 or 2015 model year, apparently ran out of battery power before reaching a charging station. It’s unclear whether the vehicle was unable to move and became stuck in the location seen in the photo, or if the driver opted not to risk it and sought assistance at the gas station – but they wouldn’t have left the vehicle on the road, obstructing one of the two lanes of traffic.

Sibiu acquired its first Tesla Supercharger station in the summer of 2021, thus it’s possible this Ukrainian Tesla driver was trying to get there. The Supercharger, on the other hand, is located along the same boulevard where the Model S was parked, but the car is looking in the incorrect direction – if that’s where it came in, it must have passed the station on its way in.

If you look attentively, you’ll notice that the vehicle is being charged while blocking one lane of traffic on the bustling main street. The petrol station provides an extension cord, which is subsequently plugged into a charger.

We don’t know how the storey ended, but since the Tesla was getting juice (albeit at a snail’s pace), it eventually moved (it is no longer there) and was hopefully directed to a nearby Supercharger so that the driver and passengers could continue on their journey, which, like many Ukrainians with means, will take them to Western Europe.
